The story
The church served as a hospital during the Civil War, and guides describe a priest in clerical dress and footsteps on the stone floor when the building is empty. The best-known tale is of a dying soldier who reached the church and gasped 'Thank God, I am saved,' and evening visitors say they hear a faint voice near the front steps.
