The story

The statue honors the 1891 wreck of the Dictator, which drowned the captain's wife and young son. After the boy, Karl, was buried locally, people reported hearing a child crying near his grave and on the beach, and the voice is said to have stopped once his body was moved to rest beside his mother. Ghost tours also mention sailors seen on the sand near the monument.

Visitors. Open to the public (boardwalk monument; free).

Location note. Intersection only (25th St and Atlantic Ave, on the boardwalk)
