The story
Legend says Blackbeard buried treasure in the dunes here, and visitors describe a headless figure walking the dune line at dusk, along with footprints appearing in untouched sand. Some hikers in the cypress swamp say they have heard distant drumming, which local tradition credits to the Chesapeake people who once lived on this land.
