The story
A 2009 U.S. Army feature on Fort Monroe's ghosts described investigators recording voices in the casemate gun rooms and hearing horse hooves in brick passages where no horses have been for over a century. The most famous figure is the White Lady, said to be a captain's young wife shot by her jealous husband, and a child visitor once reportedly pointed at Edgar Allan Poe's portrait and said that was the man who had been in his closet.
