The story
The local story predates the 1926 building: Johnnie McLaughlin, a young stagehand and would-be actor at the Dewey Theatre that once stood here, is said to have died in the 1902 mining disaster. When odd things started soon after the Egyptian opened, people blamed him, and staff still report footsteps on the empty stage and doors swinging open on their own.
