The story
Tradition says this 1850s frontier post got its name when a nervous sentry fired at what he believed was the ghost of a Native warrior. Since the fort was abandoned, people have described uniformed soldiers among the chimneys and ruins, and one family said two figures they never saw in person turned up in their 1959 photographs.
