The story

This 1859 Italianate mansion is linked to Bettie Brown, the independent painter and traveller who died here in 1920. Staff and visitors say a souvenir box she bought abroad is found locked one day and unlocked the next with no key in use, and they report footsteps and the sound of skirts brushing the staircase.

Visitors. Limited access (event venue; occasional Galveston Historical Foundation open houses).
