The story

General Anthony Wayne died at Erie in 1796, and when his son moved him east years later, tradition says the bones were boiled clean in a kettle and the rest reburied in Erie. The museum displays an iron cauldron connected to that account, and local ghost lore says the kettle rattles or moves by itself after hours.
