The story
On the morning of June 21, 1877, before he was hanged, Alexander Campbell is said to have pressed his hand to the wall of Cell 17 and declared the mark would prove his innocence. Guides say the handprint has come back after cleaning, repainting and even replacing the wall, and the cell is now sealed so visitors view it through the door bars.
Visitors. Open to the public (guided tours; admission charged).
