The story
New York's first state asylum opened in 1843 and is remembered for the 'Utica Crib', a caged bed used to restrain patients. Local radio and paranormal write-ups repeat reports of screams from the basement, footsteps echoing down empty corridors and faces in the upper windows, though the sealed building has seen little formal investigation.
Visitors. Exterior and grounds only (state records archive, not open to the public).
