The story
Soon after the coquina Weeping Arch was finished in 1854, mourners noticed drops of water falling from it, especially in humid summers. Local legend grew that the arch weeps for the dead and that anyone hit by a drop while passing under it will be the next to die, though conservators explain it as moisture seeping through the porous shell stone.
