The story

Local legend says Letitia, a daughter of Governor John Motley Morehead, kept a candle in the mansion's tower window for a man who never came home from the Civil War. Visitors report a flickering, candle-like light along the drive after dark and a woman in period dress in the upper halls, although genealogists have not confirmed a Letitia who died in the tower.

Visitors. Open to the public (house museum; admission charged).
