In the hotel's best-known story, an elevator phone calls the front desk around 2:30 every morning, and the car is always found empty. When a clerk finally called the elevator back, someone reportedly picked up, yet the car was still empty when staff checked, and storytellers tie the activity to the old red-light district around the hotel.
