The story
Residents of the converted Kirkbride asylum and people on tunnel tours describe footsteps in empty halls, shadow figures at the far ends of long wings, and cold stairwells in Building 50. In the woods behind it stands the graffiti-covered 'Hippie Tree', which legend says opens a gate to hell for anyone who circles it without passing under or over a limb.
Visitors. Public areas open; historic and ghost tours ticketed.
Location note. Woods trails are patrolled; stay on public property
