The story

Lumber baron David Whitney Jr. built this mansion, completed in 1894, after his first wife Flora had died; a weeping woman seen in the third-floor lounge is often linked to her. Whitney, who died in the house in 1900, is said to appear near the third-floor Ghost Bar, and figures in period clothing turn up in the elevator.
