The story

Ida Day Holzapfel led this library twice, from 1916 to 1926 and again from 1946 to 1953. Since at least a 1975 Hutchinson News story, workers have reported a woman resembling her in the basement along with footsteps with no source, and staff tend to describe her as a familiar rather than frightening presence.

Visitors. Open to the public (free library).
