The story
Bartender Charles Beresford worked at the Palace from 1906 until he died in his room upstairs in 1960, and he is said to have never really left. He was known for betting customers they could not land coins on the statues behind the bar; when a later bartender revived the game, a guest reportedly felt cold pressure on his shoulders. Closing staff describe music, talk and clinking glasses in the empty bar.
