The story
The Capitol's best-known story dates to the 1920s, when a lieutenant governor working late in Room 324 said the room went cold and a door opened on the figure of Civil War governor William Buckingham. Oddly, Buckingham died before the building opened, but his bronze statue stands in the rotunda.
