The story
The figure most often described at this 1835 landmark is a woman thought to be Rachel Holmes Larkin, who lived here until the house was sold in 1849. Docents and visitors mention cold spots, the feeling of being watched upstairs and footsteps in empty hallways, more like a former resident who never moved out than anything frightening.
Visitors. Open to the public (guided tours on select days; free admission).
