The story
This Barrio Viejo shrine is said to be the only one in the US dedicated to a sinner. Most of its many versions say a young man was killed here over a forbidden affair and buried where he fell, and since the 1870s people have lit candles and left petitions, believing his restless spirit grants wishes saints would refuse.
Visitors. Open to the public (outdoor shrine; free, any time).
