The story

Sarah Drish held her husband's 1867 wake by candlelight in the tower and asked that the same candles burn at her own funeral, but they couldn't be found when she died in 1884. Soon neighbors reported fires in the tower windows, and arriving crews found no smoke and no damage, a story retold in Kathryn Tucker Windham's Thirteen Alabama Ghosts and Jeffrey.
