The story

In this 1903 life-saving station, a veteran surfman named John Woodhouse Sparrow is said to still keep watch in the lookout tower. The attic, where bodies from shipwrecks were once held, is where workers and visitors describe hearing laughter from more than one voice, oddly out of place in a building tied to so much tragedy.

Visitors. Open to the public (museum; admission charged).
