The story
The park itself doesn't promote ghost stories, but visitors at the Crater, where a Union mine blast on July 30, 1864 opened a battle with thousands of casualties, report glimpses of uniformed figures at the edge of the hollow. Some also describe faint voices like commands or pleas and cold pockets in the summer air, especially around the anniversary.
