The story
Petersburg's ghost walks tell of a 19th-century traveler who bragged about his money at this tavern and was murdered in the hallway. A formerly enslaved man was blamed and hanged in the backyard despite no evidence, the story goes, though no court or newspaper record confirms any of it.
