The story
This inn occupies Newport's former colonial county jail, later a police station. Guests most often describe a uniformed jailer near the front desk and a shadowy prisoner in the basement, said to be a man who died in his cell in the 1800s, along with sudden cold drafts and whispering voices.
Visitors. Open to the public (inn; overnight stays).
