The story

More than 200 dead from the 1913 flood were handled in this courthouse, and a formally dressed night watchman has been reported pacing the grounds between midnight and 1 a.m. Employees also tell of a 1920s or 1930s shooting in the third-floor courtroom, which investigators in 2023 said felt consistent with a violent event, though no record of it has been confirmed.
