The story

New Mexico's first territorial governor, Charles Bent, was killed in this house in 1847 while his family dug through an adobe wall to escape. Visitors say they hear piano music start up and find the room empty, and the Bent family's own piano, hauled over the Santa Fe Trail, sits among the displays.

Visitors. Small museum open to the public (admission; seasonal hours).
