The story
State Historical Society employees working in the subbasement stacks of this 1924 building nicknamed their unseen co-worker the Stack Monster. In 1967 an archivist heard a voice call his name when his colleague was two floors away, and others described doors and lights operating by themselves until the reports faded after the 1981 renovation.
Visitors. Open to the public (state library during business hours; historic stacks not accessible).
