The story
Tour guides describe a gentleman in a long, old-fashioned dressing gown who comes down the central staircase, sits by the drawing-room fireplace as if to read, and then vanishes. Some credit the figure to Thomas R.R. Cobb himself, others to a later male resident of the much-moved house.
