The story
Athens' best-known cemetery legend tells of a drunken 19th-century farmer who drove his horse and carriage off the cemetery bridge into the river and died. On full-moon nights he is said to repeat the ride across the iron bridge between the old and new sections, sometimes seen, sometimes only heard as hooves and creaking wheels.
