The story
A life-size statue by Sicilian sculptor Benedetto Civiletti marks the grave of Corinne Lawton, a general's daughter who died in 1877 at 31. Tour lore claims she drowned herself to escape an arranged marriage and still wanders the riverbank, but her mother's diary says she died at home after an illness.
