The story
The best-known story concerns an older guest, alone on an upper floor during construction, who thanked staff the next morning for the lovely singing from the room next door, which was empty. That singing is linked to Alice Miller Richardson, who helped run the hotel until 1938 and whose fourth-floor corner room is the most cited hot spot. Tour groups in the catacombs below report voices, footsteps and a figure in monk-like robes.
Visitors. Open to the public (hotel; paid historic and museum tours).
