The building opened in 1890 as Miss Mary Lake's School for Girls before becoming a gentlemen's club and later a hotel. Guests say Miss Mary still keeps watch, especially in Room 410, reporting cold spots, tapping, unpacked suitcases and blankets tucked in around them as they sleep.
