The story

A 1942 article in the California Folklore Quarterly recorded students' stories of a soldier's ghost here, with footsteps, voices and moaning at night, though the author found no matching death in city records. A later campus tale says one of three workers killed when scaffolding collapsed at the neighboring materials lab in 1931 still walks that lab after dark.
