The story
Built in 1852 for transported convicts, this gaol is often called one of Western Australia's most haunted buildings. Staff and visitors report footsteps, knocking, whispers and wailing, especially around the Black Hole, a windowless punishment cell where legend says three men suffocated after being locked in for more than a day.
Visitors. Open to the public (museum; night ghost tours by booking).
