The story

Built in 1838 for ex-convict brewer Britton Jones, this house was a boys' school from 1842 to 1866. During a 2013 investigation, ghost hunters felt sudden cold in the old dormitory and recorded voices; one male voice reportedly gave its name as 'Will' and answered 'No' when asked if he was happy there.

Visitors. Open to the public (National Trust house museum and tearoom).

Location note. In Youngtown, a southern suburb of Launceston
