The story
This 1842 sandstone prison held inmates for almost 170 years, and Wing 4 is described as its most oppressive spot, with visitors reporting a crushing feeling in the chest and security staff hearing chains dragging and cell doors locking. A figure nicknamed Prisoner 42, in old prison greens, is said to watch from the end of Wing 1's corridors before vanishing into the wall.
