The story
Before it became a park in 1890, this ground behind the courthouse held the Bathurst Gaol, where an 1872 hanging went horribly wrong and the condemned man was decapitated by the drop. Locals say an ear-piercing scream sometimes rings out across the park at night when no one is there.
Visitors. Open to the public (park; free).
Location note. Street only (William Street); park sits behind the Bathurst courthouse
