The story
Legend says a merchant sailor named Eric finally won the hand of brothel madam Scarlett in the late 1880s, only to return from a voyage and find she had died of tuberculosis. He died weeks later, and his ghost is said to wander Harrington Street still looking for her; the hotel's lobby bar is named after him.
