The story
This coastal defence fort, home in turn to convicts and soldiers, has tunnels that local ghost-tour operators count among Newcastle East's most haunted spots. Guides admit it has no famous ghost story, but say the place feels different at night and one tour guest refused to enter a room because she felt unwelcome.
Visitors. Open to the public (historic site; night tunnel ghost tours ticketed).
